About The Restoration
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club has undertaken the sizable task of restoring the Frazee House in Scotch Plains, a Union County Revolutionary War landmark made famous through Elizabeth "Aunt Betty" Frazee's courage during the battle of Short Hills in 1777.
The house is also significant as the home constructed by Gershom Frazee, a prolific and unusually well-documented 18th-century carpenter and joiner. In addition to its historic associations, the house is a very good (and increasingly rare in Union County) example of eighteenth-century domestic vernacular architecture that has received a Certification of Eligibility from the NJ State Historic Preservation Office.
